Humanists Flock to Vancouver, BC: Global Harmony June 15–18 -- Humanist Association of Canada (HAC) 30th Annual Conference and Humanist of the Year Awards Session topics: The Threat of Fundamentalism, Global Sustainability, Canada Well Being Act, Human Security and More. Plus, Ex- United Church Minister Who Exposed 1st Nations Murders Will Lead Canadian Genocide Rally on English Bay Beach at The Inuktuchuk Statue on Sat. Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) June 5, 2006 -- On June 15-18 2006, humanists, philosophers, politicians and environmentalists from coast to coast will gather in Vancouver, BC as the Humanist Association of Canada (HAC) Ottawa, holds its 30th Annual conference for the first time in Vancouver. The conference is hosted by the BC Humanist Association (BCHA), in collaboration with North Puget Sound Humanists and Victoria & Sunshine Coast Humanists. Key Highlights include speaker sessions, the Humanist of the Year Awards Gala Dinner, Humanist cruise, live entertainment, and workshops . This year the prestigious award goes to Homa Arjomand, Dir. Intl. Campaign Against Sharia Courts.
VENUE: At the Coast Plaza Hotel at 1763 Comox St. Vancouver. BC, at beautiful English Bay Beach, where guests will enjoy a variety of presentations and workshops, including topics that will emphasize the relevance of Humanism to the many challenges that threaten today's world. A yacht cruise, dinner and interactive sessions are a part of the fun. Keynotes will be delivered by highly respected speakers including;
- MADELINE WELD, Ph.D., President, Global Population Concerns-Ottawa, & Toxicology Evaluator with Health Canada;
- KEVIN ANNETT, Author/Educator/ Radio Host, A former ordained Minister in the United Church of Canada. Annett organized & founded the 'Truth Commission into Genocide in Canada'. Kevin hosts 'Hidden from History', a public affairs and human rights program on Vancouver Cooperative Radio. Annett will lead a rally June-17th on the Canadian Genocide;
- MIKE NICKERSON, Educator/Author, 'Canada Well-Being Measurement Act'- Private Members Motion 385, passed by The House of Commons. Also the founder of 'The Sustainability Project', a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of the next seven generations;
- DR. CHRIS DI CARLO, Instructor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Wilfrid Laurier University. His most recent book (soon to be released) is entitled: 'How to Become a Really Good Pain in the Ass: A Practical Guide to Thinking Critically';
- DR. ROLAND CASE, Educator / Executive Director and Co-founder of The Critical Thinking Consortium. He is on leave from his position as professor of social studies education at Simon Fraser University. Roland has edited or authored over 100 published works

BACKGROUND: This event was conceived to bring humanists together to seek ways to improve important social, political and environmental issues on a community, national and international scale. HAC, http://www.humanists.ca , has been the umbrella organization for numerous humanist groups across Canada for 30 yrs. BCHA is a registered non-profit, secular, educational organization, active in BC teaching ethics etc. for 25 yrs.
