EPA Requires Contractors To Become Certified Lead Renovators! CleanEdison now offers a Certified Lead Renovator Training Course. CleanEdison now offers a Certified Lead Renovator Training Course. This is in reaction to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requiring all contractors who perform renovation, repair or painting projects that may disturb lead paint to be Lead RRP Certified. The Certified Lead Renovator Training Course is now available at http://www.cleanedison.com

The EPA’s new requirement will affect most contractors conducting common renovation and repair work activities since demolition, deconstruction, sanding, and cutting can generate hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint. This lead contamination has been proven harmful to both adults and children. To protect against these risks, the EPA is now requiring that all contractors be enrolled in the Lead RRP-Certification by September 30, 2010 in order to perform renovation, repair and painting projects in homes, rental facilities, child-occupied facilities, and schools built before 1978. For any contractor performing this work without the Lead RRP Certification, the EPA may seek penalties of up to $37,500 per violation, per day.
