New Survey Reveals The 7 Deadly Sins of Bathroom Design That Can Stop Your Home From Selling

Plumbworld The UK's largest independent online retailer of bathrooms has surveyed over 1345 people in the UK to find out what people really hate in a bathroom.

After tallying up the results from its recent bathroom survey, Plumbworld, has flushed away the myths and discovered the truth about what really makes a splash in today’s bathroom.

If you’re considering making your home appeal to potential buyers, then one of the first places to start is in the bathroom: Here are the seven worst mistakes in bathroom design that will make it more difficult to sell your home.

1/ Coloured bathroom suites.

Of the 1,345 people who took part in Plumbworld’s bathroom survey, an overwhelming 82 per cent said they “hated” the once popular avocado and coral pink bathroom suites and 81% said they loved the plain look of all white.

2/ Carpet on the bathroom floor

The survey showed that the preferred floor covering was tiles, with 75 per cent saying they “loved” a tiled bathroom floor. Popular vinyl flooring has not yet lost its place in the bathroom, with more than 61 per cent saying they didn’t have any strong likes or dislikes towards it. But only 5% of people loved carpet in the bathroom and 68.1% reported that they hated it !

3/ Gold taps and accessories

Only 6.4% of people said they “loved” gold taps against 71% who “loved” chrome. Those who actively hated gold taps were 57.4% of the total with less than 1% expressing an active dislike of chrome.

4/ Curtains on bathroom windows

Given a straight choice between curtains and blinds an amazing 93% of people preferred blinds in the bathroom.

5/ Poor Showering Facilities

94% of people said it was very important that their bathroom had a shower. The most popular choice being a power shower (65%). If the bathroom is big enough then invest in a separate shower enclosure which 81.1% of people thought was important. If you have to put the shower over the bath then use a glass screen (hated by only 7.6%) as opposed to a shower curtain (hated by 57.9% of those surveyed)

6/ Bathroom Mould

Although it is relatively easy to deal with, large numbers of people would be put of buying a house with any signs of mould in the bathroom. 72% of people said they would be put off buying a house if there was y mould on the silicone sealant around the bath. An additional 67% of people would be put off by a mouldy shower curtain.

7/ Dark Colour Schemes

People definitely prefer their bathrooms to be light and bright. 53.3% of those surveyed said hey hated dark colour schemes in the bathroom, but less than 1% hated light colour schemes.
