OrchidWiz Releases Encyclopedia 3.0 Orchid Database Software

New orchid database software from OrchidWiz, LLC targets ease of use features that help average computer users get the most out of their hobby.

The new software release from OrchidWiz, Encyclopedia 3.0, targets ease-of-use and speed by adding many features that enable users to find and research orchids in a more natural way.

OrchidWiz Encyclopedia software is used by several hundred orchid aficionados around the world in 19 countries. Over 100 American Orchid Society judges and more than 70 orchid nurseries currently use OrchidWiz. Most users, however, are average hobbyists. For this reason the company chose to develop additional features that help users find information quicker and easier.

"Prior orchid databases failed to gain mainstream acceptance primarily due to usability issues," says Alex Maximiano, Managing Director at OrchidWiz. "The reality is not every orchid aficionado is a database expert. From the start we decided to focus development on features that make software research enjoyable to the average user. The new features in Encyclopedia 3.0 further expand our goals by making the application even more intuitive and faster than it already was."

In addition to new features, another 20,000 image references were added, bringing the total to 122,576. The software also includes the latest data from the Royal Horticultural Society's International Register of Orchid Hybrids March - April 2006 and from the American Orchid Society's Awards Quarterly March 2006.
