Third-Grade Teacher Announces Release of Hilarious Debut Novel, Learn Me Good

Learn Me Good, a hilarious first-person account of a newbie teacher, is now available worldwide. Covering the course of one school year, Learn Me Good highlights the comical side of being an educator.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) June 16, 2006

Former design engineer turned third-grade math teacher, John Pearson, has released Learn Me Good, a novel based on his first-year teaching experiences.

John Pearson knew when he was laid off from his position at a thermal design firm in 2001 that he needed a change. He decided that teaching was the way to go, so he got the necessary credits and certifications and became a third-grade math teacher at an inner-city public school in the Dallas Independent School District. Now he faces new challenges. Conference calls have been replaced with parent conferences. Product testing has given way to standardized testing. Instead of business cards, now he passes out report cards. In fact, the only thing that hasn't changed noticeably is the maturity level of the people surrounding him all day. Pearson writes his observations, anecdotes, and rants on his blog at http://learnmegood2.blogspot.com

"So many hilarious and outrageous things happened that first year that I just had to put this story down on paper," explains Pearson. "One boy told me, ‘My bowels be runnin'!’ and another asked, ‘Does Uranus have a ring around it?’ One of my students tried to eat a test paper, and I mistakenly asked one girl's mother if she was her brother."

Learn Me Good is told as a series of e-mails, with witty subject lines such as, "In math class, no one can hear you scream," "Irritable Vowel Syndrome," and "I see red people."

When asked if Learn Me Good is fiction or nonfiction, Pearson responds, "Although based on actual experiences, enough has been embellished or altered to make it a work of fiction. Also, all of the names have been changed to protect the innocent, the guilty, and the marginally involved," he adds with a smile.
