Charities Neglected at Home as War Costs Skyrocket to over $320 Billion

As war and reconstruction costs drain government resources, domestic charities like the AngelsCamp homeless shelter are forced to employ novel and entrepreneurial fund-raising techniques.

(PRWEB) June 20, 2006 -- As war and reconstruction costs drain government resources, domestic charities like the AngelsCamp homeless shelter are forced to employ novel and entrepreneurial fund-raising techniques.

Bret Bocook and his team have a breakthrough design in place for a homeless shelter that could spell the end of the homeless problem in the United States. Now all they need is the funds to operate it.

"We're told there are no funds available for services to Americans—with next week's $94.5 billion emergency spending bill, the Iraq war has diverted all of our taxes and all that's left over for Americans is debt," laments Bocook. “Nobel Prize winning Harvard economist Linda Bilmes just released a study that estimates the “true costs” of the war are over a trillion dollars, so the plight of government services in this country looks to get worse instead of better.”

Ironically, it may be the military veterans who would be the recipients of such funding as the pentagon struggles with the growing problem of homeless veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates there are 200,000 homeless veterans in the US right now and experts say those numbers are growing daily due to returning Iraq veterans. The situation has become so bad that a movie "When I Came Home" is being released highlighting the issue.

"Movies like 'When I Came Home' are great to raise awareness, but the hard truth is we need cash to get this off the ground," says Bocook. "One of the best features of the AngesCamp design is that once the facilities are in place, all operating costs are covered by the shelter’s businesses which also act as job training for the residents. That's part of why Angels Camp is such a great investment."

As a successful entrepreneur in his private life, Bocook wasn't going to let lack of government support stop his dream of ending homelessness. Bocook turned to the internet for funding and began an ingenious program of offering donors "virtual pavers" in the form of pixel advertising on the site at www.angelscamponline.com.

"We've been thrilled with the overwhelming response the pixel ads have generated," says Bocook, "Donors have called me to order more pixel ads, because they were so happy with the response from their previous ones."

According to the owners of www.DotAds.net, this phenomenon is not uncommon: "The earlier sponsors get increased benefit, because as the site traffic grows, their ads have the best locations and get exposure from day one. Thus, AngelsCamp is a great example of pixel ads. Because the Angels Camp website will continue to receive visitors indefinitely, as long as the shelter [and its website exist, and the pixel ads will get exposure for a very long time on that initial investment."

The online ads will be placed over a background of the architectural plans for the proposed site in the Washington DC region. The ads can be purchased in square blocks of "pixels" and will show the logo of the purchaser along with a link to their website. "While the traditional pavers appeal to private individuals and local businesses, the online donors get constant worldwide exposure for their donation. The pixels are quite cost effective and also help those who are less fortunate," explains Bret, who expects the ads will be shown to thousands of visitors per day on the AngelsCamp site.

"In this modern globalized world where TV like CNN is constantly showing us tragedy in far off places, people forget that we too have the homeless and destitute here in our country and even our capital," reminds Bocook.
