Man’s Hangover Cost Him Nearly $1,000

A cruise ship passenger was quarantined when a hangover was mistaken for a contagious stomach virus. Now there's an herbal supplement designed to help drinkers overcome hangovers and thereby avoid a similar fate.

(PRWEB) June 23, 2006 -- An ill-timed hangover cost one man more than he bargained for last week. Michael Wanless was on board an Australian cruise ship, The Pacific Sun, for a 10-night cruise when an outbreak of gastroenteritis, a virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea, occurred. The ocean liner was apparently having passengers that onboard doctors found ill quarantined in their rooms for 48 hours to prevent the virus from spreading.

When Wanless sought medical assistance for some relief from the hangover he was experiencing, the symptoms of which are similar to gastroenteritis, doctors assumed he had contracted the virus. He then was also quarantined in his cabin for 48 hours, missing out on 2 days worth of his cruise. The average cost for the 10 day South Pacific Cruise is approximately $4300, meaning Wanless essentially lost around $900 on the two days missed.

This news has many travelers concerned about their own upcoming cruises. One of the main attractions for cruises is often the included alcohol, so naturally cruisegoers don’t want to be penalized for their enjoyment of this perk. One company in Memphis, Tennessee, claims to have the answer for such situations.

Their new product, called Altoxin, is said to be a quick fix for a hangover, helping revelers get over their symptoms of headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, and fatigue quickly and safely. A company spokesman explained that the ingredients in the Altoxin pill are all-natural herbs that have been used for centuries to overcome the symptoms associated with a hangover.

“Cruise ship passengers would be smart to pack a stash of Altoxin in their bags so they don’t find themselves in the same sticky situation as Michael Wanless,” said the spokesman.
