Nashville, TN – The Northwest remembers Tyler Stenson as the two-time Portland Songwriters Association Performing Songwriter of the Year (2007 and 2008). As for 2010, they’ll long remember his capacity crowd performance at Lola’s Room at the Crystal Ballroom introducing his seventh studio album, Bittersweet Parade, just moments before moving to Nashville, TN to pursue his career as a professional singer-songwriter.

During his final weeks in Portland, Stenson recorded a stellar new album that will be the cornerstone of his Nashville songwriting portfolio. Recorded at 8 Ball Studio with Portland’s locally beloved Rob Stroup, the record is a storyteller’s journey in an “elegant folk” format. Autobiographical at its core, Stenson self produced Bittersweet Parade, a historically toned celebration of life and the brooding dynamics that accompany the human existence.

Chalk-full of gripping lyrics, poignant vocals and unforgettable acoustic melodies, the record’s minimalist singer-songwriter approach showcases Stenson as a magnetically authentic solo artist in an age of typical over-production and stale studio glitz.

From start to finish, Bittersweet Parade is bursting with evidence of Stenson’s unique ability to craft elegant songs with substance. Inspired by a Cormac McCarthy novel, The Road is the record’s single – a sparkling lullaby that praises a would-be lover while Great Man’s Funeral pays sweet homage to db clay, a once great wallet company that Stenson and his brother started in Portland years ago at the Portland Saturday Market. Concluding the Bittersweet Parade is a majestic song about Wyoming – a tribute to Stenson’s place of birth and a scenic anthem that has been recognized by the Governor of Wyoming as a candidate for this year’s Governor’s Art Award.

Critics have coined the 2010 release of Bittersweet Parade as Stenson’s strongest work to date and it could not have come at a better time – moments before moving across the country to pursue his dream on the big stage of Nashville, TN.

There will be many more albums in the future, but for now, Bittersweet Parade is a stunning representation of Stenson’s accomplishments as a songwriter and a proud portfolio for his promising career in The Music City.

Tyler Stenson is an award winning singer-songwriter from Portland, OR that is currently based in Nashville, TN. As the pioneer of his genre “elegant folk” Stenson’s lyrical music is catching on internationally and attracting a train of followers that find a piece of themselves in the sincerity of his words.
