Metropolitan's Video News Magazine Recognized For Excellence "Straight From The Tap" Captures Two Telly Awards

For the third consecutive year, a video news magazine series produced by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has captured Telly Awards, honoring excellence in video and film productions, as well as local, regional and cable television commercials.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2006 -- Two "Straight From the Tap" episodes - "The Pursuit of Balance in the California Bay-Delat" and "Water for Life" - received a Bronze Telly, the second highest honor, from a diverse pool of entries from all 50 states and 30 countries.

"'Straight From The Tap" has proven to be an important tool in helping Metropolitan reach the public about the value of water in our arid region and the entire state," said MWD General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger. "This recognition confirms that the series is tops in its field and able to both educate and entertain with creativity and excellence."

"The Pursuit of Balance in the California Bay-Delat" spotlights the stability of Northern California's levees and the environmental, water quality and supply reliability issues of the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The program penetrates the history of the ecosystem and offers a comprehensive overview of the competing interests that have been brought together to solve Bay-Delta problems.

In addition to being shown on cable television stations throughout California, in May "The Pursuit of Balance" aired on San Francisco's KQED Public Broadcasting Service television station, which will rebroadcast the episode in late July. San Mateo's PBS station, KCSM, is scheduled to broadcast the episode July 29 at 9 p.m.

The "Water for Life" episode chronicles the World Water Forum, a competition that mobilized hundreds of college students throughout Southern California to research and develop water-use efficiency technology that can be employed cost-effectively in water-stressed regions, locally or internationally.

Launched in February 2000, Metropolitan's "Straight From The Tap" is the only video news magazine program dedicated exclusively to covering water issues and events in California, particularly in the south coastal plain. Programs are written, produced and hosted by Metropolitan staff and are broadcast on more than 125 statewide public, government and leased access outlets and stations including Adelphia, Comcast, Charter, Cox, Time Warner, as well as government and city channels such as LA36, LA35 City View and Santa Monica City Television. Vail Community Television in Colorado also carries the program.

Programs are available at no cost to cable outlets, universities, schools, libraries, the general public and other interested parties and can be ordered online by visiting the Metropolitan Water District website and opening the "Straight From The Tap" link.
