Clash TV Launches the First iPod-Ready Cult Movie Channel Clash TV launches as the place for classic cult movies. Featuring ipod ready full length downloads of movies such as Nigh of the Living Dead, Clash may be the Mystery Science Theatre of a new generation. New York, NY (PRWEB) July 7, 2006 -- DeSoto Entertainment Inc., an Orlando [Florida based distribution company, has launched the first and only podcasting network to showcase feature-length vintage content. Culling from a library of cult-classic “B” movies and held together with a short-skirted hostess named Zoe Cosmo, Clash TV fills the niche that Vampira, Elvira and Mystery Science Theatre 3000 held in decades past.
DeSoto Entertainment believes that the time is right for a channel like Clash. With home internet speeds finally great enough to pull down movies in close to real-time, and seeing the proliferation of mobile media device like the video iPod, DeSoto looked for a niche that wasn’t currently being served. They found their inspiration in the science fiction and horror of the 1950’s and 1960’s, a market that hadn’t seen serious attention since Mystery Science Theatre ended production nearly a decade earlier.
“We’re really filling a gap like Nick at Nite did in the eighties, brining tried and true content to a new outlet. There’s no other place on the net that I can get these movies delivered to my iPod in such an easy and fast way. I’m not sure if podcasting this kind of content is the future for the medium, but I’m proud to be one of the first people to give it a try”, said John Soto, president of DeSoto Entertainment.
Clash TV is surprisingly rich with features. It sports both feature-length films along-side so-called “Short Stacks”, micro-cinema versions of selected scenes from cult movies. Clash also boasts a “B” movie themed arcade, with a tongue-in-cheek slogan of “Games that are as good as the movies that inspired them”, and a frequently updated science fiction newswire.
Zoe Cosmo, the Clash Girl, is also a guilty pleasure of Clash. This spunky hostess, clad in a 1950’s car hop uniform, serves up the movies with a snarky sense of humor that playfully combines sex appeal with brash intellectualism. Where predecessors like Elvira played the role of the “Vamp”, Zoe’s approach is closer to a girl next door… someone you can relate to. She’s very self-aware as a hostess; a quality that’s unique to this generation and makes her really stand out as the future face of cult movies.
Clash TV’s launch is supported by the theme of “Zombie Month” featuring recognizable favorites such as “Night of the Living Dead”, “Plan 9 From Outer Space” and “The Last Man on Earth”. Future plans include celebrity interviews, location-based wrap arounds and expansion of the Clash brand in to other mobile device markets [cellular and pocket PC’s as well as development of a half-hour cable show that will feature original horror and sci-fi shorts from independent filmmakers.
Clash TV can be seen at www.clashtv.com or in the iTunes podcasting network. There are no subscription fees to view the channel.
