Laser Surgery Evolves at Dello Russo Laser Vision

The flying Spot laser, or LADARVision system, tracks all eye movement during surgery using a small spot beams, less that one millimeter in diameter which is movie rapidly across the cornea in a computer-controlled patter on tiny, nonsegential overlapping spots.

Your eyes are in constant motion. Often too subtle to detect, natural eye movement is a factor that makes ocular surgery, including laser vision correction, a procedure that requires pinpoint accuracy. “Even when you are aware, your eyes are constantly making fine movement, many of which are beyond your control,” explains Dr Dello Russo.

Working with a laser recently approved by the FDA called the autonomous laser, Dr Joseph Dello Russo is on the pioneers in the new approach the laser vision technology that works with the natural motion of the eyes for a precise accuracy and smoother healing. “This new laser system tracks all eye movements during the surgery, a small laser beams is used to shape the cornea. Precision shaping of the cornea depends upon accurate placement of the laser beam. The autonomous or LADARVision laser maintains accurate placement of the laser beam, providing greater control.”

With the Flying Spot laser beam, the amount of corneal tissue that is removed is often less than the width of a single human hair, helping to produce a smooth, postoperative corneal surface that may reduce post-surgical side effects for a quick recovery.
