Detroit, MI (PRWEB) July 15, 2006 -- Paul Levinson, a five-time published Tor books science fiction author and eight-time scholarly non-fiction writer, has signed a deal to produce a digital-only paid downloadable audio book with Indie label Conquer The World Records (CTW). The release, entitled “Spun Dreams,” is currently under production as read and recorded by Levinson himself. The work is a collection of short stories that have been published over the years in various magazines and anthologies. The release will retail for $9.99 and will also contain a few music tracks, as well as spoken word content. Most recently the author has been receiving attention for his new science fiction time travel novel “The Plot to Save Socrates” which was released earlier this year by Tor.
Mike Warden, President of CTW, found Levinson on the popular social networking site Myspace.com while promoting the label’s flagship author, Scott Sigler. Sigler’s “EarthCore” was both the world’s first podcast-only novel, and the first paid podcast content.
“It was my idea to release audio books the same way I would put out my music releases for the label, using all-digital technology,” Warden said. Since Earthcore, the label has released short stories by Hugo Award-winning authors Robert J, Sawyer and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
When not writing novels, 59-year-old Levinson teaches at Fordham University as Professor and Chairman in the Media and Communications department.
“I’m excited about the audio book because this relates to the exact field that I study,” Levinson said. “I focus on the enormous impact that the Internet and technology has had on the different ways we communicate. This audio book offers a very personal rendition of my writing.”
With Levinson, Sigler, and two Hugo-winning authors on his label, Warden feels CTW is ready to work with more established authors.
“This is my call to arms,” Warden said. “If there are any authors who like what I’m doing and want to make 50 percent on the sales of the downloadable audio books, I will work with you personally. I’m not only interested in representing the content and promoting it on the label, but I want the author to be paid more than the pittance offered by publishers and audiobook sellers, and to build a substantial library as an alternate to sites like Audible.com.”
The Levinson release will be posted on the label’s website at www.conquertheworld.com and of course, Paul’s Myspace page at www.myspace.com/twiceuponarhyme. “We cannot do pre-orders,” Warden said “We’re keeping an email list to let people know the second Paul’s book is available for download.”
