Vanberger Engineering install Extrusion Press System at Lasla Metals SA Supply & Installation of Extrusion Press to Lasla Metals SA Nijmegen, Netherlands (PRWEB) July 15, 2006 -- Lasla Metals, located in Milan, Italy is a manufacturer of a wide selection of high performance nickel based alloys in the form of rod, bar, sheet, strip, section, tubing and wire products. The manufacturing processes involve melting, primary hot working, hot rolling, cold rolling and cold drawing, generally categorised as metal forming processes.
Production is usually carried out against customer orders, hence the environment is primarily batch manufacturing. The Extrusion Press and associated furnaces for preheating are critical to dealing with approximately 75% of the Lasla’s product range.
The newly installed Extrusion Press System is supported by six batch furnaces for preheating of the raw product (billets) before extrusion can take place. Charging patterns are created to show the positioning of the billets in each furnace, depending on the size of the billet, type of furnace and required discharge order. The complex installation requiring the removal of old equipment was undertaken while maintaining production. Down time was significantly reduced still further by the implementation team concentrating the fitting and re-engineering works during the night over a four week period.
The benefits to Lasla of operating the Extrusion Press using a Vanberger engineered system as opposed to the existing manual operation are:
• Improved quality • Increased productivity • Increased product yield
Ronald Kieft, Project Leader, Vanberger Implementation Team said: “It was critically important that we selected the right schedule to replace the aged Extrusion Press with the new equipment as we were working around hot metal. We were invited to tender for the contract based upon our engineering experience and upon receiving the contract we carried out an extensive review working together with Lasla’s own works team to work out a detailed solution. The review culminated in a shortlist of potential time slots that gave us a schedule to complete our off-site fabrication prior to the removal of the old equipment, installing the new”.
Andrea Lutini, Vice President, Lasla Metal said: “Vanberger Engineering was selected as our preferred vendor because their proposal, experience in our industry, and the positive feedback received from their major customers met all our requirements for the development and support of the new system.”
