Kadoo, Inc. Announces iPad® APIs Under Development; Bringing Kadoo Backstage, an Open File Cloud, to Developers of iPad

Kadoo today announced iPad APIs for Kadoo Backstage™ are under development. Kadoo Backstage is an Open Developer Community for the Consumer Cloud that enables developers to create apps and web services that can access users’ files on the Kadoo service. The addition of iPad and iPhone® APIs will solve the walled garden issue for consumers and developers alike – the ability for different apps and devices to easily access and share the same files.

Reston, Virginia (PRWEB) June 10, 2010

Kadoo, Inc, a leading innovator of consumer cloud-based technologies, today announced iPad APIs for Kadoo Backstage™, an Open Developer Community for the Consumer Cloud, are under development. Kadoo Backstage enables developers to create apps and web services that can access users’ files on the Kadoo service. The addition of iPad and iPhone® APIs will solve the walled garden issue for consumers and developers alike – the ability for different apps and devices to easily access and share the same files.

With Kadoo Backstage™ developers can build applications and use Kadoo Backstage File Cloud for any platform they want to develop, providing users with direct, seamless access to their files in the Consumer Cloud. Currently, when users want to move files to or from their iPad, they have to connect the device to iTunes on their computer. Third-party developers technically aren’t allowed to use Apple’s proprietary USB or other private APIs to enable their apps to be downloaded to iPad.

Lee S. Barney, author and professor at Brigham Young, is renown in the developer community as the creator of the QuickConnect framework for the iPhone/iPad and other mobile platforms. Barney, who is passionate about offering developers solutions that ease the development process, said, "The Kadoo API lets us decide what documents to share with applications we create.” Barney who also champions data portability added, “As society becomes more and more mobile, the ability to share documents between people and even between different applications also becomes increasingly vital. If people are not able to share documents of their choice, progress is slowed and society is less rich.”

By using Kadoo Backstage’s open APIs, developers design apps and web services that give their users the freedom to move smoothly from one application and service and one device to another. Users sign up for a Kadoo Backstage service once, upload their files once, and then with their permission, give third-party applications access to all of their files. This approach reduces the consumer’s resistance to sign up for new cloud offerings and eliminates the need to upload the same files for use on different services and applications.

"The iPhone, and now the iPad, have already been real game-changers for how I operate on a day-to-day basis and having access to my files is a vital piece of this." says communications and media specialist Dave Saunders of davesaunders.net. “The ability to work on documents and share them online completely changes the way I look at mobile computing. And to soon be able to access my Kadoo files from inside of iPad apps directly would save me time of having to dock my iPad to my MacBook in order to edit files.”

Kadoo Backstage will develop APIs to support iOS 4 as it becomes available later this year. Developers interested in downloading the Kadoo Backstage APIs can submit their requests through the company’s website at http://developers.kadoo.com.

About Kadoo Backstage:

Kadoo Backstage™ is a cloud-based, open development community where developers create applications and web services without the expense of buying and managing infrastructure. The Kadoo Backstage APIs include a file cloud, a user cloud, a billing cloud, and a CPU cloud that work seamlessly with all applications and web services regardless of device or platform. Developers can bring their applications or web services to market without having to host their files, create a billing solution, or database for user information.

Kadoo Backstage is a proven system with roughly 160 million file views a month (documents, photos, videos and audio files) and nearly 2 million users in the Kadoo environment, a cloud-based web system for consumers. Kadoo’s users register once and, with their permission, access and use all their files in the applications and web services offered by Kadoo Backstage developers. Kadoo Backstage is grounded in the principles of ownership, privacy, and control. Kadoo was founded in 2008. For more information, visit http://developers.kadoo.com and http://www.kadoo.com
