Movie Nights, Scout Weekends, Sunflowers Mark Fifth Season at Uncle Shuck's Corn Maze and Pumpkin patch

Fifth season at Dawsonville Agritainment Complex features more family fun in north Georgia. Close to 40,000 people are expected to have fun getting lost this fall in the corn and soybean labyrinth, featuring a Stock Car design.

Dawsonville, GA (PRWEB) July 24, 2006 -– Outdoor entertainment only begins with a walk through a field of cornstalks this fall. At Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in Dawsonville, visitors will have opportunities to watch feature movies under the stars, to earn patches on Scout-themed weekends, to enjoy a children’s soybean mini-maze and to revisit the ever-popular haunted trails. The 20-acre agri-tainment complex will open for its fifth consecutive year on Saturday, September 2 for the Labor Day weekend, and will operate for 12 weekends until November 19*.

Mike Pinzl is the owner and operator of one of the top-rated corn mazes in the Southeast. His seasonal business has more than doubled since he opened in 2002. While 15,000 people navigated the labyrinth of pathways in his cornfield, the life-sized maze has grown in popularity and attracted 35,000 people in 2005.

“It’s never been more fun to get lost. It’s a family-owned and family-run business and we pride ourselves in a safe, clean and fun environment. In five short years we’ve gained a positive reputation for our Uncle Shuck’s brand, making our maze and pumpkin patch a fall destination for many people not just a side attraction,” said Pinzl, known as “Uncle Shuck,” who is an active member of the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce and the Dawson County Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as a registered member of the North American Farmers Direct Marketing Association.

The main attraction continues to be the 12-acre field of living cornstalks, in which five miles of trails are cut each August. By September the corn will grow to 10 feet in height and the serpentine pathways will carve out a design of a stock car, and the logo for media partner, Atlanta Parent magazine. “Dawsonville is known for its racing history, so we thought this would make a good local theme,” Pinzl added.

New in 2006 will be “Maze and a Movie”, held on September 22 and 23. With maze admission, the feature movie will be free, a full-length feature shown after dark on the lawn near the maze entrance. Details will be announced in early August.

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy many complimentary activities around the maze, including a giant sunflower garden, covered picnic pavilion, children’s hay-bale play area, tractor display, corn cannon and family photo areas. Popular fee-based activities return in 2006: evening bonfires, tractor-drawn hayrides, weekend pony rides, corn cannon and haunted trails for Halloween.

Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch will operate on weekends only, and holidays, in September and November. In the month of October, Uncle Shuck’s will be open seven days a week, and the pumpkin patch springs to life with decorative gourds, pumpkins, decorative corn and corn stalks. One section of paths will become the Haunted Maze for three weekends in October. The tractor-drawn hay rides and secured bonfire area are open every weekend in September, October and November. The pony rides are open weekends in October. Fresh food and refreshments will be served on weekends throughout the fall season.

Special presentations and commemorative patches are available to scouts in 2006. Boy Scout Weekend will be Sept 30-Oct 1, with demonstrations by the Appalachian Heritage Guild. Girl Scout Weekend will be Oct 7-8, with demonstrations by Ways of Our Ancestors. 24-25 and Girl Scout weekend will be Oct 1-2. Admission is $10 per Scout, which will include the presentation, commemorative patch, maze admission and hay ride.

Located on Georgia Highway 53 just two miles west of GA 400 in Dawson County, Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is the most convenient maze to metro Atlanta, and is supported by Atlanta Parent. Admission is $9 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Hay ride/bonfire is $4 per person. Combo ticket is $11 for maze/hay ride and bonfire. Group rates are available for parties of 20 or more.
