Exosect Advises South Asian Delegates On New Pheromone-based Mating Disruption Technology Exosect, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control, has been invited by The South Asian Society For Advancement Of Pheromone Technology (SASAPT) to speak at its annual conference in August on how environmentally-sympathetic Exosect technologies can be used in the South Asian farming industry. (PRWEB) August 2, 2006 -- Exosect, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control, has been invited by The South Asian Society For Advancement Of Pheromone Technology (SASAPT) to speak at its annual conference in August on how environmentally-sympathetic Exosect technologies can be used in the South Asian farming industry.
The conference will take place on the 17th August in Hyderabad, India. Ian Baxter, Director of Research at Exosect will address an audience of senior SASAPT members and delegates on the current pest control challenges faced by South Asian farmers, the need to reduce chemical residue levels and Exosect’s integrated pest management (IPM) approach to pest control.
Baxter comments, “Over 70% of the population in South Asia work within the agricultural industry. Farmers in this region are reliant on high levels of pesticides to control pests in crops, however, growers both locally and internationally are facing increasing consumer pressure to reduce chemical residue on food products. In addition to consumer pressure, many insects are starting to build up resistance to most of the widely used pesticides, it is therefore imperative that growers begin to consider new, greener solutions to the problem of insect pest control.”
Exosect’s innovative technology can reduce or even replace blanket crop spraying. Its special formulated powder (Entostat) is based on a food grade powder, which sticks to an insect via electrostatic attraction. When combined with specific insect pheromones the target insect pest is used to deliver a disrupting effect amongst its own population and thus breaks down the mating cycle. This technology has already proven commercially viable in the UK, US and South Africa and it is expected that South Asian growers will also realise the benefits of a reduced pesticide regime.
About The South Asian Society for Advancement Pheromone Technology The South Asian Society for Advancement Pheromone Technology was created by a consortium of companies to increase public awareness on the use of pheromones and the benefits to growers. The society works to influence policyholders, growers and manufacturers to promote the use of pheromones and works with researchers to improve their perceived value.
