E.R. Overcrowding Crisis Fuels Tele-Tracking's Expansion

Patient flow software firm hits milestone with 1200 installations.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) August 8, 2006 -- The hospital overcrowding crisis continues to drive growth for patient-flow software maker Tele-Tracking Technologies, Inc., which has announced the licensure of its 1,200th solution.

The pioneer of automated patient flow has grown at a compounded annual rate of 27 percent over the last three years and is the acknowledged market leader with more than 650 hospital clients throughout North America.

“We’re growing because hospitals desperately need to solve their overcrowding problems, and they are turning to technology to support their efforts,” said Anthony Sanzo, President and CEO. “Those problems are now being addressed at the highest levels of many hospitals.”

Rising interest costs have made expansion or new construction less attractive, Sanzo said, so hospital executives need to find cost-efficient ways to get more capacity from existing space.

The Institute of Medicine recently predicted overcrowding would paralyze U.S. emergency rooms in the event of a natural disaster or large scale terrorist act.

Hospital and E.R. overcrowding are caused by continual hospital closings, a large uninsured population, and lack of in-patient bed space due to inefficiencies in the bed turnover process. Tele-Tracking’s real-time software solutions accelerate patient flow by reducing inefficiencies and decreasing lag time.

The firm pioneered a digitized bed-board and workflow software to replace the manual bed request and placement process. The Bed Management Suite™ with electronic bedboard™ displays a hospital’s census and bed availability – in real time — and lets users control the process electronically, instead of multiple phone calls, walking the floors or time consuming bed briefings.

“At a glance anyone can know which beds are occupied, dirty, being cleaned, or available,” said Gene Nacey, Tele-Tracking’s Chief Technology Officer. “It took 5-7 phone calls, faxes, pagers or even room visits to get this information before. Our clients marvel at how quiet their patient placement departments are without the constant ringing of phone calls.”

Last year, Tele-Tracking introduced wireless, handheld solutions (bedboard mobile™ and BedTracking mobile™) which offer all functions of the large-screen, flat-panel electronic bedboard as well as the ability to plan for volume changes hours in advance from anywhere in the hospital.
