Pacific Media Reports Strong Second-Quarter for Front Projector Market; Combined Professional and Home Theater Projector Sales Jump Nearly 30%

Pacific Media Associates, the global market information experts on large-screen displays, announced that worldwide professional and consumer front projector sell-in shipments during the second quarter of 2006 rose to 1.2 million units, an increase of 28% over the same period last year.

Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2006 -- Pacific Media Associates, the global market information experts on large-screen displays, announced that worldwide professional and consumer front projector sell-in shipments during the second quarter of 2006 rose to 1.2 million units, an increase of 28% over the same period last year.

“During the second quarter, we saw unit sales of professional projectors hit an all-time high,” said Michael Abramson, Vice President of Pacific Media Associates. “Demand for professional projectors -- sold mainly to businesses, education, and government -- was strong in most major developed and emerging markets around the world. In the home theater market, sales growth continued to improve on a year/year basis. And we expect that momentum to build through the fall and holiday seasons as many new 1080p projectors hit the market and buyers increasingly turn to instant theaters to meet their growing demand for big-screen home entertainment.”

Growth in the Americas led the way during the second quarter as that region jumped to a record-high 42% share of the worldwide market. Sales of both professional and home theater projectors registered impressive gains in the United States. And in the emerging markets of Latin America, demand for entry-level professional projectors continues to expand at a healthy pace thanks to rapidly falling prices.

Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) represented 36% of the worldwide market during the quarter, as projector sales jumped 30% compared with the prior year’s second quarter. As economic sentiment indicators in the European Union climbed to a five-year high, growth in sales of professional projectors jumped to their highest levels in more than a year. Aggressive pricing actions continue to stimulate demand for professional projectors in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe as well as in the Middle East.

Second-quarter growth hit 20% in Asia but couldn’t keep up with the torrid pace set in the first quarter of the year, when virtually every major country in the region experienced 35% or higher unit growth for professional projectors. In the second quarter, growth in China, India, Korea, and Singapore outpaced the rest of the region.
