Terror Victims Share Personal Accounts Via LebanonsVoices.com

Inspired by a website featuring stories of Israeli terror victims, Dr. Sam Wakim created LebanonsVoices.com to enable Lebanese willing and able to share their personal accounts to submit written, audio and video stories of the impact of Lebanese being terrorized by other Lebanese in their own homeland.

Yreka, CA (PRWEB) August 18, 2006 -- Dr. Sam Wakim cares deeply about the future of Lebanon and wants international audiences to have accurate, firsthand access to personal stories of Lebanese who have suffered from terrorism within their own country. “International news reports from Lebanon are often distorted or completely misleading,” Dr. Wakim said. “This is especially true when it comes to understanding the high price Lebanese from all walks of life have paid because of terrorism against them in their own homeland by other Lebanese.”

Recently, Dr. Wakim was inspired by IsraelVoices.com, a website offering accounts of Israelis talking about their personal experiences, that he decided to create LebanonsVoices.com to encourage Lebanese to share their own stories.

“While watching a Lebanese talk show on LBC, several people from southern Lebanon were calling in and sharing their experiences on the air. There were incredible stories of surviving through suffering and persecution, of living with hope and despair. I wished that the western world could hear and understand what they had to say,” Dr. Wakim said.

“I then came across a website that was a place for northern Israelis to share their stories. That was the inspiration I needed to start LebanonsVoices.com."

"LebanonsVoices.com," said Dr. Wakim, "is the best vehicle available for those Lebanese willing and able to tell their personal stories. I invite them to share their stories, Lebanese being terrorized by fellow Lebanese in their own homeland.”

While Dr. Wakim said that the security situation in Lebanon leaves many citizens concerned about being personally identified when speaking out about terrorism, LebanonsVoices.com will allow individuals to submit their testimonies in a variety of formats that allows them to protect their identities.

“LebanonsVoices.com will respect the legitimate concerns many Lebanese have about revealing their identities when speaking out against terror," Dr. Wakim said. "As more people find the strength and courage to share their stories, I hope it will become safer for many more Lebanese to provide their personal testimonies without fear of reprisals.”

LebanonsVoices.com launched this week with five personal accounts provided by individuals in Lebanon. At presstime, Dr. Wakim said even before LebanonsVoices.com was online, word about the effort was circulating in the Lebanese community and leading many people to inquire about providing personal testimonies. The stories, along with instructions for residents of Lebanon to submit their own accounts, are available online at http://www.LebanonsVoices.com.
