(PRWEB) August 20, 2006 -- The MI Compendium under the title "Minimal Intervention: A new approach in Dentistry - Evidence based Compendium" has recently been extended with data to the additional topics: Air abrasion, Laser treatment, Magnification (Dental Microscope), Ozone treatment, Quantitative Light induced Fluorescence (QLF), Sono abrasion and Topical fluoride application.

These MI Updates are now available online from page http://www.midentistry.com/update.html

The MI Compendium provides a comprehensive evidence base for MI and aims to assist in the development of evidence based undergraduate MI teaching for dental students. Dental academics and practitioners from three dental schools in Brasilia, Johannesburg and Sao Paulo have searched fifteen main databases (including Cochrane Library, PubMed, Lilacs) and reviewed English, German, Portuguese and Spanish publications relevant to over 50 individual MI concepts. The systematic review followed evidence-based principles and is available in eBook format (PDF) online on http://www.midentistry.com/academia.html

In addition, academics from the collaborating dental schools are presenting review results to individual MI in more depth at concepts in congresses and symposia. For more information see http://www.midentistry.com/congress.html

MI is a philosophy of professional care, concerned with the first-occurrence, earliest detection and earliest possible treatment of disease on micro (molecular) levels, followed by the most minimally invasive and patient friendly treatment options in order to repair irreversible damages caused by such disease. MI aims to empower patients (through information, skills and motivation) to be in charge of their own oral health, so that they only require minimal intervention from the dental profession.
