Ladies Champions Tour Changes Name

Champions Tour name caused confusion between senior men and senior women's tours.

Laguna Beach, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2006 -- The Ladies Champions Tour announced today that it has decided to change its name to the International Senior Ladies Golf Tour, and that the professional players association has contemporaneously changed its name to the International Senior Ladies Golf Association.

The name change came about as a result of discussions with the PGA, who asked that a name change be considered in order to avoid confusion between the senior men’s and senior ladies tours.

“In retrospect, we are actually pleased with the new name” said Vicki Fergon, President of the Ladies International Golf Tour. “Our new name is more descriptive of what our organization truly stands for - the promotion of senior women’s golf worldwide, not only in the US.”

About the International Senior Ladies Golf Tour: The ISLGT was incorporated by Vicki Fergon and plans to have 14 events per year in 5 countries within 3 years, and is negotiating with sponsors and courses who are very receptive.

The new Association has 45 founder members including Marlene Hagge who is one of the original founders of the LPGA in 1950, and has received playing commitments from 61 of 84 eligible players.

About Vicki Fergon: A dynamic, versatile and dedicated ambassador of golf, with a broad bandwidth of skills and experience developed playing 27 years on the LPGA tour, she is a three time tournament winner on the LPGA Tour and winner of the inaugural WSGT (Women’s Senior Golf Tour) tournament in Green Bay, Wi., also winning the IOS Classic on the Futures tour in 2002 which makes her the only woman to win on all 3 tours.
