Rare Ceramic Tile Mural by Famed Artist LeRoy Neiman is Saved From Destruction

Rare LeRoy Neiman ceramic mural available for the first time since it's original commission in 1976.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 19, 2010

In 1976 Sportsman's Park commissioned famed artist, LeRoy Neiman, to create two one-of-a-kind murals for the entrance to their Clubhouse. One depicted "Flat Racing" while the second featured "Harness Racing". The artist spent several weeks on site creating these two unique murals directly onto the ceramic tile walls. They remained in this high traffic area of the race track until the closure of the track. The murals were removed and the tiles were professionally cleaned and restored to their original brilliant condition.

Neiman murals are few and the limited collection of public murals include:

"Homage to Lautrec" 1963; Continental Hotel, Chicago Illinois

"Summertime Along Indiana Dunes" 1966; Mercantile National Bank, Hammond Indiana

"Royal Ascot" S.S. Patrica, Swedish Lloyd ship, Stockholm, Sweden

"Harness Racing" and "Flat Racing" 1976; Sportsman's Park Clubhouse, Cicero, Illinois

Neiman was commissioned to create a 160' mural at the new Sports Museum of America in lower Manhattan, NY in 2008

The thoroughbred horse racing themed mural titled "Flat Racing" consists of 119 tiles, each 12" x 12". The "Flat Racing" 7' x 17' mural is privately offered at $375,000.
