PEACHTREE CITY, GA (PRWEB) August 31, 2006

Phi Mu Fraternity’s national headquarters will play host to a casually themed gathering of Georgia sorority sisters on September 30, 2006. Billed as “State Day”, the festival will prove that sorority membership continues well after college.

“Sorority membership is for a lifetime,” said State Day organizer Ashlee Forscher. “Alumnae are organized into city or regional chapters that continue Phi Mu’s commitment to serving the community and to renewing our bonds as sisters. So State Day is truly a family reunion for sisters in Georgia.”

According to Phi Mu headquarters, there are almost 10,000 Phi Mu members in the state of Georgia.

The State Day Committee is planning a tailgating theme called “Just Hanging Around With a Few Thousand of My Sisters”. In this relaxed atmosphere, collegiate sorority members can mingle with other college chapters as well as meet the alumnae they will be involved with after graduation.

“Alumnae are the family’s ‘big sisters’, continues Forscher. “New college graduates can rely on them for networking in finding a job or a new place to live. When you are fresh out of college and are establishing yourself in a career, it’s a big help to have new friends that you already have a common bond with. The same is true for alumnae who have moved to Georgia from other states.”

“Phi Mu has had a very long history in Georgia that continues today. Every member is a part of that history. Every member has something to give and something to gain from participating in fraternity life, especially after college.”

Phi Mu Fraternity was founded in 1852 at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. It is the second oldest women’s secret society in the United States. Originally called the Philomathean Society, it existed solely at Wesleyan for more than 50 years before becoming the national fraternity Phi Mu in 1904. There are 120 collegiate chapters across the nation with 14 at Georgia colleges and universities. Phi Mu has 175 alumnae chapters nationwide with 14 in Georgia.
