Building on more than a century of success, Barlow Respiratory Hospital is revitalizing its Foundation Board with a diverse group of new members from medicine, law, real estate and media.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 1, 2006 -- Building on more than a century of success, Barlow Respiratory Hospital is revitalizing its Foundation Board with a diverse group of new members from medicine, law, real estate and media.

At its July meeting, the Foundation welcomed six new Board members whose expertise and experience will help broaden the Foundation’s vision and efforts. The newly expanded Board adopted goals to enhance core fundraising programs, increase volunteers, and collaborate more closely with hospital staff to identify and prioritize funding needs.

“We are very excited to welcome these talented and distinguished individuals, whose diverse skills will advance our efforts to support Barlow programs and services and, ultimately, help our patients,” said Carol Lugo, vice president of the Barlow Foundation.

The new members include 50-year-veteran attorney Carl Weissburg of Foley & Lardner, whose distinguished career includes providing legal counsel to the state’s Federation of American Hospitals; Real estate specialist and Land America Commercial Service’s Vice President of Major Accounts Denise Anthony and KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO Local Sales Manager Steve Sullivan. Barlow also welcomes to its Foundation Board Jenny Ming-Chen Hwang, MD, who specializes in internal medicine; Universal Hospital Service Account Executive Manny Galvez, and Barlow former patient Betty Buckingham.

“We are honored to have these individuals join Barlow’s efforts,” says Barlow CEO Margaret Crane. “They will undoubtedly provide a tremendous asset.”

As a long term, acute care hospital, Barlow treats patients with complex medical conditions who require longer hospital stays and expert, specialty care. Barlow is a beacon of hope for patients who may be dependent on life support systems, such as ventilators and cardiac monitoring, due to trauma, extensive surgery or disease. Barlow treats the whole person, with a focus on rehabilitation. Its physician-led health care teams include nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical, occupational and speech therapists, case managers, palliative care and dietitians. Together, they devote their expertise to each patient in order to restore them to optimal functioning in their daily life.
