Austin, TX (PRWEB) September 6, 2006

Novosoft Inc. announces a new version of its Java RTF2FO converter. RTF2FO 3.4.2 converts RTF documents to XML and prepares reach formatted XSL FO templates. All resulted documents are produced in strong compliance with the latest W3C specifications for XSL FO.

An important improvement of this new release becomes a facility to use different external logging systems for tracking the conversion process that is significantly lighten debagging and development work.

In contrast to tools that provide “interlinear, word for word” conversion, RTF2FO is designed for “smart” RTF to XML transformation. In RTF2FO, we concentrate on structure, logic and appearance of initial RTF documents and pass all this information to resulted XML files in terms of XSL FO semantics.

RTF2FO is a pure Java product and requires Java 1.2 or higher to be installed. Compatibility with so old version of Java comes from necessity to support big industrial Java environments created several years ago with popular Java IDEs, such as IBM VisualAge ® for Java 3.5 and other.

The easiest way to evaluate the converter is running it on your own set of business documents and forms using the “batch conversion” option through GUI or the Command Line Interface. Typically, XSL files are generated for further converting to PDF. To facilitate this process and achieve maximal similarity of appearance with initial RTF documents, we preset in RTF2FO a number of compatibility options for the most popular FO rendering tools. These options have to be chosen before starting a process of conversion depending on what PDF renderer will be used.

To integrate RTF2FO into production applications we recommend to do it through converter’s API of the converter which is a flexible and reliable.
