National Champion Baton Twirling Team, Dance-Twirl Minnesota, Opens New Eagan Studio to Allow for Growing Enrollment

Dance-Twirl Minnesota, which recently won a National Title, aims to expand the reach of baton twirling, a unique and graceful sport, offering opportunities for Twin Cities’ children to participate in team or individual lessons.

http://www.dance-twirlmn.com - Baton Twirling, an obscure sport, not often the top-of-mind choice for parents looking to enroll their children in activities is taking hold and growing within the Twin Cities.

Dance-Twirl Minnesota is opening a new studio in Eagan, MN, to accommodate a surge in demand for both private and team baton twirling lessons.

“The exposure of Dance-Twirl Minnesota due to its recent National Title for Beginner Senior Large Dance-Twirl has created increased interest in the sport,” says director Jacinda Miller. “Baton Twirling is an excellent sport which encourages working well as a team, hones eye-hand coordination and offers teams and individuals a chance to be involved in a sport which also competes at the national level."

Current members of the Dance-Twirl Minnesota team just returned from the annual, nation-wide competition, AYOP, which is held at Notre Dame University. Dance-Twirl Minnesota had five teams and numerous individuals attending the competition in a number of categories.

Two events that twirlers competed in individually include:
Solo – A two minute routine performed by an individual, competing against others in a similar age group and skill level where the focus is to complete the routine with the most difficult tricks and the least amount of errors, such as dropping the baton.
X Strut – A two minute routine performed by an individual, competing against others in a similar age group and skill level, where the focus is to complete dance moves in combination with baton tricks where technique and grace between tricks are scored highest.

“There are numerous opportunities for kids who may be looking to participate, but not necessarily compete. In fact, most twirlers start in a group setting to learn basic skills and then move on to competitive teams,” said Miller.

Current baton twirling class openings include Beginner Baton Twirling, Combination Baton & Dance, Two-Baton, Competition Routine, Jazz, Ballet, Modern Dance, Hip Hop for Kids, Tap, and Adult Yoga classes.
