Resort Business Opportunities launches the first and only blog focused on doing business and living in resort and vacation areas.

Bend, OR (PRWEB) August 24, 2010

Resort Business Opportunities LLC (RBO) is pleased to announce the launch of its one-of-kind blog, Resort Business Life. The RBO website go-rbo.com is the only online listing venue for businesses for sale in resort and vacation areas around the country. The blog will cover a wide range of topics relating to operating a business and living in a resort environment. "Running a business in a resort or vacation destination, whether it's at a ski area, a beach town, or on a lake is really unlike owning a business in the 'real world'," says CEO Brian Lantzy. "These areas, due to their extreme seasonality and transient workforce, present unique challenges to running a business. Our goal is to help the prospective or current business owner recognize these nuances early on to help them avoid the pitfalls. I'm positive that there is no other blog or website out there that speaks to these matters. We realized a long time ago that the reason most people buy a business in a resort town is for the lifestyle, and therefore there is a premium to be paid for that and the rules of the game are decidedly different."

The blog will cover a broad spectrum of business and lifestyle topics but will always be geared towards resort and vacation areas. And they will call on the advice of experts with real-world experience. "Whether you want to learn about running a campground, buying a marina, valuing a restaurant, or opening a ski shop we aim to be the go-to site for that kind of information," says Lantzy. The blog is the first block in the foundation of the RBO "Resort Business Community" section of its website, which will also include a page that amasses and categorizes relevant articles scoured from the web. They will do the same with helpful website links. RBO also publishes a monthly e-newsletter to keep interested parties up to date on the happenings in the resort business marketplace. "If we haven't covered a topic yet in the blog or posted articles on our site, just e-mail us, and we'll try and point you in the right direction. We have over 350 business for sale listings on the site in more than 100 resort markets. We are talking to business owners, brokers and consultants every single day. Chances are we know someone who can help you out."

The blog will reach beyond just business topics; it will also deal with the issues of day to day life in a resort town. Most people who buy a business in a these locales aren't just relocating to a new area, but to an entirely new way of life. Healthcare, childcare, education, entertainment, and goods and services are usually limited in resort areas. Lack of customers may necessitate the closing of the business for a couple of months during the off-season. A move to a Rocky Mountain ski town may require the psychological preparation for 9 months of snow. Or a Gulf Coast beach business owner may have to physically prepare to board-up the windows for an impending hurricane. RBO will help owners wade through these issues in an attempt to make the resort life as idyllic as they had imagined. The website already has a page dedicated to these topics, "relocating", and has a downloadable checklist of items to consider when buying a business in a resort area. The blog will explore these topics and more, and in greater detail.

The owners of Resort Business Opportunities are uniquely qualified to comment on the resort life. Brian and Sibila Lantzy both grew up in beach towns on the east coast and then spent 13 years living in Colorado ski towns before moving to Bend, Oregon. Partner Reid Simonton was raised in Colorado and resides in Bend as well. In Colorado Brian and Sibila owned a couple of businesses and worked with hundreds of small business owners. It was during this time that Brian realized that a lot of people had no idea what they were getting into when they bought a business in a seasonal resort town. "Its common to have unrealistic expectations of what life is like in a resort town. Some people bought the wrong business, some people bought in the wrong area, some did both. I called on hundreds of businesses over the years and the turnover was significant. Some just lasted one or two seasons and they were gone, usually with a lot less money than when they started. We really want to help people make the right choices the first time. Because it really is a great way of life, you just have to be prepared."
