Stock Market Sim Takes on Prime Time TV

A dynamic new Stock Market simulator has been developed that takes all the current Prime Time TV series and allows players to buy and sell them just like on Wall Street. This time -- you control the rise and fall of Prime Time TV.

Chilliwack, BC (PRWEB) September 11, 2006 -- Fact: Over 110 million television households are in the United States alone (Nielson Media numbers).

Fact: There are more than 205 million Internet users in the United States as of 2006 (Internet World stats).

The Internet is becoming a driving force in television marketing and media relations. With the rise in social networking websites -- all of the major television studios have set up shop on these sites to promote the Fall 2006 season. They believe that these social networking sites will increase market share and give them the edge.

Review sites such as tv.com and Zap2it.com allow a different type of control – the viewer reviews the shows they like and thusly can in some ways guide the development through their comments and critiques -- if the studios are watching.

TV Stocks Online has been set up to allow a totally different method of user interaction -- treat each television show, actor, and studio as a stock -- able to be bought and sold at market value. Adjust stocks based on their Nielson ratings and on user votes so the popular shows and actors rise, the unpopular ones fall. Chart the entire event and track it like a stock exchange – plus … allow the players to write their own views and comments as they play.

Tim Morrison and Shaun Streeter developed the Stocks Online php application about a year ago and implemented it with the TV Stocks Online interface first, because they felt this would be an excellent way to show that a market simulator can work, and work well, using dynamic ever-changing data that is controlled by the players. TV stocks Online has very little admin functions -- only putting in Nielson numbers and controlling the Reality TV stock trading --– otherwise -- it’s fully player-driven.

The modular program has been developed to accommodate any possible market commodity, and they are looking into other simulated markets such as sports or even tracking computer game releases, or new cars. All in all -- a new way to look at an old problem. How to see popularity in other ways than just voting for it.
