Instant C# and Instant VB Make it Easier to Generate Sample Projects

Both utilities convert source code at the project, solution, folder, file, and code snippet levels, including ASP.NET in-line code.

Instant C# 2.7 and Instant VB 1.8 now offer more features to make it easier to generate sample projects. Command line project conversion allows Instant C# and Instant VB to be used as part of the build process for IT shops that regularly convert VB sample projects to C# or C# sample projects to VB.

"Many of our customers want to incorporate our converters automatically into their sample project creation process. They want to proceed directly from their build process to testing the sample projects before making them available to their customers and the changes we've made to Instant C# and Instant VB are directed to that need," says Dave Doknjas, president of Tangible Software Solutions.

Instant C# and Instant VB now allow specifying custom string replacements to be made in the final converted code. This can be useful for customizing code according to style preferences that may be different between C# and VB. "It's very useful for cases where calls to methods lacking a good equivalent in the other language will be replaced by calls to your own custom methods in the converted code. This minimizes the amount of tweaking required in the final product," says Doknjas.

Since sample projects are often intended for third-party use, Instant C# and Instant VB now offer the option to suppress notes and warnings normally inserted in the converted code. According to Doknjas, "you never want your customers to see messages inserted by the utilities used to generate your samples."

Instant C# and Instant VB convert all versions of VB.NET and C# code (2002, 2003, and 2005) and typically well over 99% of lines converted by these tools require no post-conversion adjustments.
