Amber and Angela Cope Leave Chicago Disappointed The Cope twins traveled to Chicago to participate in ARCA's SK Hand Tool 200 and Slinger Speedway's Season Championships. Wilkes-Barre, PA (PRWEB) September 14, 2006 -- Amber and Angela Cope traveled to Chicago this past weekend for two races. The twins planned on participating in ARCA's SK Hand Tool 200 at Chicagoland Speedway and the Season Championships at Slinger Speedway in Wisconsin. This would have been the first weekend that both girls would get to race. Things did not go as planned.
Amber was in the driver's seat for the ARCA race at Chicagoland. The #75 Sundance Vacations Chevrolet seemed very promising off the truck. However, in the last practice lap, the motor blew on the Monte Carlo.
The crew needed to work diligently and replace the motor in time for qualifying. Amber also had to forfeit one of her qualifying laps due to the work that needed to be done on the car between practice and qualifying. The car was ready to go in time and Amber was the second to last car to get a chance to qualify. Her qualifying time was 32.559 with a speed of 165.853. This put Amber in the 33rd position, one spot shy of qualifying. As she left the track in disappointment, Bob Schacht, owner of the number 75,chased down Amber, telling her that she would be in the race. She was told that the #5 car, driven by Ian Henderson, had wrecked on its second qualifying lap and would not be able to race. It was later learned that Henderson bought another car in order to participate in the SK Hand Tool 200 the next day. It was an up and down battle but in the end Amber was left out of the race.
On Sunday, Angela was going to drive a Late Model car in the Season Championships at Slinger Speedway. The Cope twins were a huge hit at Slinger during their last visit and they were eager to return. Sundance had reached an agreement with Tony Strupp, of Strupp Enterprises, to rent a Late Model Stock Car and put Angela in the driver's seat. Angela arrived at Strupp Enterprises early on Sunday in order to get the car ready for her. A great deal of work had to be done for Angela to fit in the car and the crew was pleased with the ending result. The Copes, pit crew and car arrived at Slinger Speedway only to find out that the race had been cancelled due to rain. It was not rescheduled.
It may have ended up being a depressing weekend for the Cope girls but they have had a successful rookie season thus far with Sundance Vacations. They will now prepare for the Iowa ARCA 250 on October 15th at Iowa Speedway. This is the last race of the ARCA season.
