Children Making a Difference -- Essay Contest Spotlights Good Deeds

While many good deeds done each day are going unrewarded, the National "Do a Good Deed Contest" seeks to spotlight and reward good deeds performed by children and young people up to age 18. Contest rules are simple. "DO A GOOD DEED" and describe in a short essay what you did, why you did it, and what happened as a result. The winner will receive a new computer. The next prize-giving date is November 15, 2006. Essays must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the award presentation. Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 15, 2006 -- An award presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Tim Hammond of Realty Associates will provide a new computer to the Houston Area winner of the National "Do a Good Deed Contest."

The contest encourages children and youth up to 18 years of age to do a good deed and then write an essay detailing what they did, what motivated them to do it and what happened as a result. Interested parties may call 713-382-3298 for recorded information on how to enter. Essays submitted by 5pm on Wednesday November 1, 2006 will qualify for prize consideration. Ultimately, one winner will be chosen out of all the entries that qualify.

Hammond is a member of the Rotary Club of Memorial - Spring Branch. Rotarians world-wide are encouraged to participate in four areas of Service: 1) Club Service, 2) Vocational Service, 3) Community Service, and 4) International Service. The Community Service Goal and Mission of the Good Deed Contest is to motivate young people to become active in their communities and in turn, instill in them positive qualities, like creativity and innovation, self-motivation, self-esteem and a desire to help others.

"In today's world it is important that we acknowledge young people's good deeds," Hammond stated. "It is not true as portrayed frequently in the news that only bad things are happening. By focusing on what is good, we can get a different perspective of our society and encourage ourselves and the younger generation to do more good deeds."
