Hanover Wind Symphony Receives Grants for Major Instrument Purchase

Funds enable purchase of concert-class timpani

Whippany, NJ (PRWEB) September 16, 2006 -- The Hanover Wind Symphony is pleased to announce that it has received capital grants from the Hyde and Watson Foundation and the E. J. Grassmann Trust, both of Warren, NJ, for the purpose of acquiring new timpani instruments. As a result of these and private donations, the group has located and purchased a set of four hand-hammered concert timpani.

HWS Board Chair Mindy Kahn said, "We are delighted to have been awarded grants from these two fine organizations. Thanks to their generosity, we are now the new owners of professional-caliber timpani. This acquisition comes as the result of over two years of work in fund-raising and grant development."

Conductor Jason Noble added, "We are so pleased that we have been given this opportunity to enhance the sound of our group. Many people are unaware that, in addition to their rhythmic qualities, the timpani are inherently capable of producing specific musical pitches. This tonal quality can go a long way in contributing to the quality of a performance."

The Hanover Wind Symphony, one of a handful of outstanding community-based wind orchestras in New Jersey, is now embarking on its 22nd annual concert season. Under the baton of Jason Noble, cited as one of the "nation's most promising young music educators," the group's musicians bring to the performance a level of musical facility and passion seldom heard in community playing. The ensemble plays a wide range of program material, from original symphonic band works to Broadway shows and film scores, from orchestral transcriptions to big band favorites and marches.
