
New Chestnut Brass Release: Distant Dancing The Grammy award winning chamber ensemble, the Chestnut Brass Company has released their latest recording of historic and contemporary music using their museum quality collection of brass instruments. The recording features Distant Dancing by noted composer Richard Peaslee. Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) September 18, 2006 The Grammy award winning Chestnut Brass Company of Philadelphia released their newest recording of historic and contemporary music in August. Titled Distant Dancing, the recording highlights dance music from the past 500 years performed on more than twenty instruments from the CBC Collection of Brasses. Featured works included noted New York composer Richard Peaslee's Distant Dancing, a single movement work for brass quintet with dance sounds from around the globe. Steps by Warren Benson provides an interpretation of the Charleston, a Huapango from Latin America and other dances. Dance Music from Philadelphia's first internationally known composer Francis Johnson and his bandmates is performed on antique keyed bugles and instruments of the era. Rare nineteenth century quadrilles for small brass band are performed on saxhorns. Included in the set is an unusual French setting of Yankee Doodle. The recording is rounded out with new arrangements of American Broadway tunes Let's Face the Music and Dance and Steppin' out with my Baby, both by Irving Berlin and skillfully arranged by Jay Krush.
