Bluemile lights New Albany's fiber network The Village of New Albany’s fiber network now has access to over 180 carriers nationwide. Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 18, 2010 Three years ago, New Albany was a non-winning finalist for a major central Ohio economic development project. That’s when community development leaders realized the need for New Albany to build its own fiber network to attract new jobs to the community. Fast forward to today when combined efforts with American Electric Power (AEP) and Bluemile have made New Albany a destination community for technology based companies throughout the country because of New Albany’s 96-strand fiber network that is self-healing and robust. These attributes contribute to a reliable and affordable network that provides access to more than 180 service providers nationwide. “The Bluemile network team is extremely excited about the technology and services we've rolled out for New Albany," stated Chris Kane, Director of Network Engineering for Bluemile. "By leveraging Cisco's REP¹ and DWDM² technologies we can provide a menu of options and fast deployments. The simplicity and efficiency the design lends to high availability and fast failover. ” New Albany’s fiber network allows prospective companies to maintain relationships with existing service providers no matter where they are located. As a result, New Albany is making a national name for itself, even beating out cities like Atlanta and San Antonio for high tech companies and mission critical facilities. "We are honored and excited to help the Village of New Albany support their local businesses,” states John McKenna, Vice President of Enterprise Sales for Bluemile. “The Blue Albany™ Network is helping New Albany attract new businesses by offering companies a way to lower operational expenses for technology and to preserve capital. New Albany does a tremendous job with economic development by offering their businesses the amenities they need to be successful.” In the last two years alone, Motorists, Nationwide and TJX (the parent company of TJ Maxx), all Fortune 500 companies, have committed to New Albany because of its technology infrastructure. Additionally, PharmaForce is bringing 200 jobs to New Albany through expanded operations and Aetna, a New Albany mainstay for more than a decade, is doing the same. “I’m thrilled with what we’ve been able to accomplish here in New Albany, and it wouldn’t have been possible without our partnership with Bluemile,” said Jennifer Chrysler, New Albany’s Community Development Director. "They have been vital to New Albany’s success." ABOUT BLUEMILE Bluemile is an established leading-edge provider in cloud services, wholesale voice, colocation and data technology solutions.
