Executive Leadership Symposium for Women Business Leaders Announces Speakers for October 20th Washington D.C. Leadership Conference Barbara J. Krumsiek, President, CEO, and Chair of Calvert Group, Ltd., Shirley Edwards, Partner and Mid-Atlantic Assurance Leader, Ernst and Young LLP, and Donella Brockington, Vice President of Business Development, Government Solutions Group of Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., will headline the Executive Leadership Symposium for Women Business Leaders on October 20 to be held in Washington, D.C. co-hosted by Boardroom Bound, Diversity Pipeline Alliance, and P&L Group. Krumsiek, President, CEO, and Chair of Calvert Group, Ltd., Shirley Edwards, Partner and Mid-Atlantic Assurance Leader, Ernst and Young LLP, and Donella Brockington, Vice President of Business Development, Government Solutions Group of Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., will headline the Executive Leadership Symposium for Women Business Leaders on October 20 to be held in Washington, D.C. The event will be co-hosted by P&L Group, Boardroom Bound and Diversity Pipeline Alliance.
The symposium will draw corporate and non-profit executives committed to advancing diverse business leaders into top executive roles, including paid corporate board service. Nearly 55 percent of participants are vice president level or above and 70 percent are director level or above. In addition to learning from exemplary speakers, participants share over 75 minutes of peer networking time.
Speakers will discuss how their personal experiences, external networking, and mentoring helped shape their leadership skills and successful career path. They will also share career stories and practical tips and be open to a Q&A with the audience.
Barbara J. Krumsiek is President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chair of Calvert Group, Ltd. since 1997, one of the nation’s largest socially responsible mutual fund firms with approximately $12 billion in assets under management. With over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Ms. Krumsiek spent 23 years with Alliance Capital Management, LP in New York City where she served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for their mutual funds division. Among her numerous national and local community activities, Ms. Krumsiek is Chair-Elect of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, Vice-Chair of the board of The Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation and a Director of Goodwill of Greater Washington. Ms. Krumsiek received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Douglass College, Rutgers University graduating Phi Beta Kappa with honors, and a master’s degree in mathematics from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. In addition, Georgetown University awarded Ms. Krumsiek the Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, citing her work in advancing the critical dialogue regarding the role of business in society.
Shirley Edwards is the Assurance Leader for Ernst & Young’s Mid-Atlantic Area and is based in McLean, Virginia. She is a 24-year veteran in the accounting industry with extensive experience in providing auditing, due diligence, and transaction advisory services. In addition to her client-service work, Ms. Edwards is the champion for Ernst & Young’s gender equity initiatives within the Mid-Atlantic Area and serves on the Gender Equity Task Force for the firm in North America. As an active member of the community, Ms. Edwards chairs the Executive Committee for Leadership Greater Washington. She is also the Secretary of the Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Region of the American Red Cross and an ex-officio member of the board of National Capital Chapter of the American Red Cross. She serves on the governance committee and board of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital and the Board of Trustees of Trinity University. Ms. Edwards is a certified public accountant in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech; and currently serves on the Accounting Department advisory board for the Pamplin College of Business.
Donella Brockington is vice president of business development for the Government Solutions Group of Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (ACS), based in Washington, D.C. She is responsible for marketing ACS’ services to the District of Columbia Government. Ms. Brockington’s prior positions include Vice President of Company Operations and head of ACS’ Municipal Services operation for the District of Columbia, a position she held from 1996 through 1999. Ms. Brockington joined ACS in 1988 as vice president of municipal marketing. In 1991, she was named vice president of company marketing, where she was responsible for directing and supporting priority marketing efforts and providing direct marketing support company wide. As an active member of the community, Ms. Brockington currently serves on the board of directors of the DC Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Greater Washington, and the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund. She co-chairs the Women’s Advisory Board of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital and is vice chair of the United States Tennis Association’s membership committee. She is a recipient of both ACS’ President’s Award (1998) and Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), and received the 2001 Inaugural Heroines in Technology Lifetime Achievement Award from the March of Dimes. Born in Washington, D.C., Ms. Brockington holds a master’s degree in urban systems engineering and a master’s degree of education in guidance and counseling from Howard University. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Clark University in Massachusetts.
