
Winners Announced at Great Northwoods Fish Fry Fest Held at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino More than 2,000 guests and visitors from around the region participated in the first ever Great Northwoods Fish Fry Fest on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14 at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino as cooks and fishing guides from across the Midwest competed for more than $11,000 in cash prizes, plaques and bragging rights for preparing the best fish fry in the Northwoods. The event included a special appearance by Discovery’s Deadliest Catch’s Captain Sig Hansen. Minocqua, WI (Vocus) August 17, 2010 More than 2,000 guests and visitors from around the region participated in the first ever Great Northwoods Fish Fry Fest on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14 at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino as cooks and fishing guides from across the Midwest competed for more than $11,000 in cash prizes, plaques and bragging rights for preparing the best fish fry in the Northwoods. The event included a special appearance by Discovery’s Deadliest Catch’s Captain Sig Hansen. Winning the Grand Champion prize for best overall score in the three cooking categories was the Peterson’s Fish Market of Hancock, Mich. They won a $1,500 Grand Champion cash prize. The talented cooks from Peterson’s were also served up awards for 1st place in the Fish Fry category (with a $1,250 prize), 1st place Shore Lunch (with a $1,250 prize) and 2nd place in the Special Fish (open) category (with a $750 prize) for a total of $4,750 in cash prizes! Other categories, winners and prizes included: 1st Place Special Fish (open category) – Captain Hook’s of Lake Tomahawk ($1,250) 2nd Place Fish Fry – Tula’s Café of Minocqua ($750) 3rd Place Fish Fry – Eel River Bait & Tackle of Logansport, Ind. ($500) 3rd Place Shore Lunch – Eel River Bait & Tackle of Logansport, Ind. ($500) 3rd Place Special Fish (open category) – Marie Marsh of Lakewood, Wis. ($500) “These chefs and guides cooked up some of the best fish I’ve tasted here in Wisconsin. There was great participation for this first annual event and we look forward to bringing in more chefs and restaurants next year as this festival becomes known as the premier fish fry contest in the Midwest,” said Lake of the Torches’ Director of Marketing Michael J.
