Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School (RGHDS) today announced that Lauren Goldman-Brown has joined the administrative staff as principal. In her role, Goldman-Brown will lead the pursuit of educational excellence and develop creative approaches to enhancing the learning process for the school’s faculty and students. She will help develop programs that better address student needs, advance the school’s academic focus and increase enrollment.

Prior to joining RGHDS, Goldman-Brown served as principal at the Jewish private, pluralistic Carmel School, a nursery through grade nine school, in Hong Kong. She has addressed learning needs among early childhood, elementary and middle school students and has advanced gifted students’ learning and enrichment opportunities at schools where she served. Other positions she held include classroom teacher, Deputy Principal, Language Arts Coordinator and Middle School Coordinator. At Carmel School, Goldman-Brown created a strong secular program which was often integrated with the school’s Jewish Studies curricula.

She previously taught at public schools in New York City. Goldman-Brown helped to establish “Bridges,” in Chelsea, an alternative public school for grades 3-5 and a continuation of the Early Childhood Center in Tribeca for students in Kindergarten through grade two.

“Lauren is an advocate for all learners, as demonstrated by her knowledge of the dual curriculum model and commitment to the academic success of all students,” said Rabbi Scott Bolton, Head of RGHDS. “We look forward to her role in developing and nurturing our student body as a whole while fostering individual potential. I am also pleased that Lauren has served in an international educational setting,” said Rabbi Bolton. “Her experiences in educating children for the 21st Century, global community will help us launch the leaders of tomorrow.”

Goldman-Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Oberlin College and a Masters in Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education. She also holds a State of New York Permanent Certificate for nursery school, Kindergarten and grades one through six. She applied her knowledge to the acclaimed Carmel School, where the Jewish community educates their youth to become strong in their personal identities and prepared for the realities of a new, interconnected and diverse international community.

“I look forward to working in an environment that fosters individuality and has a strong commitment to the education of its youth. RGHDS clearly recognizes the value of having administrators, teachers, staff, parents and students working collaboratively toward a common goal,” Goldman-Brown said.
