We live in a fascinating time. With so much creativity and opportunity surrounding us, Janice Wee was compelled to make her own contribution to the already wonderful world of art. She was inspired to write Jake and Sarah from vivid dreams that took her into a fantastic and original world of The Veneelg's and The World Of The Warriors. Hence the characters in her latest novel, Jake and Sarah, were formed.

“What I love most about science fiction is its ability to simultaneously mirror and distort our world,” says Wee of her new science fiction epic. In a time when what people need most is to visualize and see their fears conquered, she worked to combine all her dreams into an alternate world that is unfamiliar while still reflective of our own time. For those looking to experience another world, with feisty and memorable characters, her novel is welcome escapism.

Having grown up reading comic books such as X-Men, Green Lantern and Superman, Wee knew better than anyone the power of a story that features a strong central hero fighting and conquering the evils of the world. These sources of inspiration helped her to realize her book Jake and Sarah. When her vivid and colorful dreams occurred, she started to form an intriguing plot imbued with unique creatures. It was then that her story started to take shape.

While the dark, action-packed and suspenseful elements of the story of Jack and Sarah were right in line with Wee’s preference of fast-paced science fiction in the vein of Stephen King and the Matrix, what surprised her most was how the story blossomed into a romance.

Wee says; “It was as if the characters, Jake and Sarah, dictated the way they wanted the story to go. They were determined to be together in a romantic relationship. I had simply intended to write an action story, but felt that I had no choice but allow their story to grow into what it wanted to be.”

While romance and science fiction may seem like a new approach, Wee is pleased with the result and feels confident that young readers will be entertained and kept on the edge of their seat, just as she was as the plot unfolded .
