Kama‘äina Backroads™, Travelogue TV Series Targeting the “Local” Traveler, Launches Production Emmy-Award Winning Producer’s New Series set to broadcast on Oceanic Time-Warner OC-16 – Reaching 800,000+ Hawai’i Households Statewide HILO, HAWAI’I (PRWEB) September 29, 2006 -- A new television series exploring Hawai’i destinations of interest to the local visitor, entitled “Kama‘äina Backroads™,” has commenced production, announced the show’s producers today. Part “docu-tainment,” part “travelogue,” the series promises to whisk viewers on backroad adventures where local-style fun, culture, and historical understanding are the objective.
According to series creator Roland Joseph Torres, “We all know that Hawai‘i has long been an immensely popular destination for folks from around the world, however, for the hundreds of thousands of Hawai’i residents who call themselves kama‘äina, this is much more than just a sun-drenched oasis for R&R. It is home.”
And whether na kama‘äina take a neighbor island weekend to visit ‘öhana, to relax and unwind away from it all, or to simply see more of this one-of-a-kind place we call home, our cultural perspective, traditions and island way of life enriches everything about the journey.
The first season of KBR focuses on the Big Island, a destination with a never-ending list of options. However, KBR isn’t about whale watching or prying pearls out of an oyster. “For example, there are many places that the Native Hawaiians consider wahi pana, or sacred places, and it is important that modern travelers be enlightened, beginning with the Kama‘äina,” said Torres. Noted cultural expert Edward Kanahele said “for Native Hawaiians, a place tells us who we are and who is our extended family. A place gives us our history, the history of our clan, and the history of our ancestors.”
Travelers intent on gaining a broader understanding of the historical and cultural significance of Hawai‘i destinations are sure to be drawn to this unique and groundbreaking new television series. Kama‘äina Backroads™ is currently in production, with on-air projections of late fall 2006.
