HomeNYC Scores a Touchdown with the Fantasy Show Open

Red Line Films and HomeNYC creative director, Michel Suissa bring Fantasy Football to fans with The Fantasy Show.

New York, New York (PRWEB) October 1, 2006 -- It’s estimated that 18 million people play fantasy football during the 20-week professional football season each year. To bring fans the information they need and commentary they want, Red Line Films created and produced The Fantasy Show, an 18-episode, 30-minute high definition studio show featuring fantasy football experts. To create an engaging show open for The Fantasy Show, Noah Scheinmann at Red Line teamed up with HomeNYC’s creative director Michel Suissa.

Suissa and Scheinmann wanted to capture the excitement and passion that fantasy football fans have for the game and draw them into the show by using an organic, live action style featuring dramatically lit images of the environments in which people indulge their Fantasy Football addiction.

"The Fantasy Show was created by fantasy players for fantasy players so we wanted to make sure the open showcased the fantasy lifestyle,” says Scheinmann, ”we knew that HomeNYC could create a one of a kind world that fantasy fans would relate to."

To enter the world of fantasy football fans, Suissa begins by using slow camera movements to explore several rooms in a fantasy football fan’s home in near darkness, with only certain areas of the rooms lit by splashes of light. Layered onto the unhurried camera movements and flashing into and out of the scene are short montages of close up shots of the tools of the game used by owners captured at 3-frames-per-second through a fluttering camera gate.

To create a visual link among all of the environments, each room features an object from the football field suspended above the furniture in the room and slowly rotating on its own axis while interacting subtly with textural overlays and glowing typography to create a visual blend of the virtual and real environments that is world of fantasy football.

“Aside from the interesting challenge of combining live action with photoreal computer generated imagery (CGI) and animated graphic layers,” says Suissa, “the most engrossing part of this project was the actual research and design phase. Studying the world of fantasy football to create all the documents we used to complete the project was a massive undertaking and I am convinced that is what makes it feel so real and believable.”

The Fantasy Show airs Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
