London, UK (PRWEB) October 4, 2006 -- There is a growing spirituality movement, rising from the grassroots. It is rooted in the hearts and minds of people embracing spirituality as a vital, real and dynamic energy in their lives. The inter-linked planetary crises of war, injustice and ecological impoverishment, make it imperative that this emerging spirituality speaks to global as well as personal concerns.
Wrekin Trust has called a conference “The Emerging Spirituality Revolution: embodying the spiritual imperative of our time,” November 4-5th, 2006 at Friends House, Euston Road, London. The conference is promoted by Wrekin Trust in collaboration with many prominent spiritually oriented people and groups, many of whom are offering talks and workshops at the conference.
Keynote speakers include David Tacey, author of “The Spirituality Revolution,” Satish Kumar, editor of “Resurgence” magazine, Professor Ravi Ravindra from Canada, Caitlin Matthews, Father Diarmuid O’Murchu and Caroline Myss (by recorded video interview). Participatory workshops, a youth panel, music meditation and personal reflection are integral to the programme.
The conference also honours the centenary of the births of Sir George Trevelyan, visionary pioneer of adult spiritual education, and Father Bede Griffiths, who brought clear vision to balancing the feminine and masculine and a holistic marriage of the religious traditions and wisdom of East and West. The conference will publicly launch the work of Wrekin Trust as a Forum for Spiritual Education, a collective of some 120 leading-edge individual and organisational Associates actively working to vitalise holistic, spiritually-inspired change.
The conference is a landmark gathering for those seeking to make a difference to our world; it is a call to action, a time to make the personal and spiritual active and global.

Useful quotations: David Tacey, author of “The Spirituality Revolution: the emergence of contemporary spirituality” ( Brunner-Routledge 2004, ISBN 1 58391 874 4) describes the spirituality revolution as “A spontaneous movement in society, a new interest in the reality of spirit and its healing effects on life, health, community and well-being.”
Satish Kumar, in his 2004 Schumacher lecture “Embodying the Spiritual Imperative of Our Time,” observes that “Self-transformation is the first step towards social, political and religious transformation. All transformations start at the bottom and move upwards to embrace the larger world…. As business, politics and religious institutions need to return to their spiritual roots, so do the environmental and social justice movements need to embrace a spiritual dimension.”
