Deadly Squire - "Hayo Makamak" Exhibition at Rare Device in Brooklyn

Park Slope design boutique Rare Device is proud to present Hayo Makamak by Brooklyn design group Deadly Squire (deadlysquire.com). The work will occupy the entire front window of the shop and can be viewed from November 1 - December 3, 2006. A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, November 9 from 6 - 9pm.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) October 5, 2006 -- Park Slope design boutique Rare Device is proud to present Hayo Makamak by Brooklyn design group Deadly Squire (deadlysquire.com). The work will occupy the entire front window of the shop and can be viewed from November 1 - December 3, 2006. A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, November 9 from 6 - 9pm.

Hayo Makamak is a Chinook Indian phrase for 'plenty to eat', used derisively toward those of high status who displayed their wealth at big potlatches. It is the origin of the term 'High Muck-a-muck', coined by 19th century fur traders to describe someone who likes to throw his weight around and show off his wealth or status. The window display will become a fabulous larder of "food" - game, vegetables, fruits and pies - sewn from Deadly Squire's patterned fabrics. Inside the store will be a table laid out for a feast, with Deadly Squire plates, place cards, napkins and placemats, plus sewn drumsticks, pumpkins and other fall fare.

Deadly Squire was founded in January 2004 by husband and wife team Tim and Anna Harrington. They manufacture a line of home and apparel accessories from their own textile patterns. The fabric is printed in New England and sewn in Manhattan. Deadly Squire products appeal to the curious, mysterious and ornate. Each product is adorned with a hand-stamped tag and their signature dagger pin.

Rare Device offers 'good stuff for you and your home' in the South Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY as well as online at raredevice.net. Owned by jewelry designer Rena Tom, the studio/storefront is a place to promote the offerings of small, innovative designers from around the world as well as her own work. Every object in the store has been chosen because it is either handmade, well-designed, useful, beautiful or all of the above. In its first year of existence, Rare Device has garnered attention from magazines and websites such as The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time Out, Daily News, Lucky, ShopEtc., Daily Candy and design*sponge.

Rare Device is located at 453 7th Avenue between 15th and 16th St; the closest subway stop is F- 7th Avenue. Shop hours are Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 7pm and Sunday, noon to 6pm.
