Many of Cambridge ESOL's examinations have been approved by the UK Border Agency as part of new arrangements for student visas.

From August, certain groups of students from non-EU countries who want to study in the UK for periods of longer than six months need to prove that their English is at Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Level B1 or above, using a UKBA-approved secure language test.

Twelve qualifications have been approved for this purpose, ten of them developed by Cambridge ESOL, reflecting Cambridge ESOL's commitment to offering candidates a choice of qualifications that meet their specific needs.

The Cambridge English qualifications recognised by UKBA for Tier 4 visas are:

-- Certificate of Proficiency in English
-- Certificate in Advanced English
-- First Certificate in English
-- Preliminary English Test
-- IELTS (Band 4.0 and above)
-- Business English Certificate Higher
-- Business English Certificate Vantage
-- Business English Certificate Preliminary
-- International Certificate in Financial English
-- International Legal English Certificate
