(PRWEB) October 6, 2006 -- The five-star Tschuggen Grand Hotel, located in Arosa, Switzerland launches the spectacular new Tschuggen Bergoase spa on 1 December 2006. The CHF 35 million Tschuggen Bergoase is set within a mountain at a height of 1800 metres above sea level, and is linked to the Tschuggen Grand by a glass bridge. Spread over four floors and 3,500sqm in size, the Tschuggen Bergoase promises to be one of the most innovative spa projects in the world.

The Tschuggen Bergoase is the creation of Switzerland’s foremost architect, Mario Botta, whose other accomplishments include the refurbishment of La Scala in Milan and the Museum of Modern Arts in San Francisco. The Tschuggen Grand’s rooms and suites have also been redesigned by renowned Swiss interior designer, Carlos Rampazzi, famous for his creativity with colour, pattern and light.

Design within the Tschuggen Bergoase is minimal. Light and space are fundamental, with granite stone from the mountains, light maple wood and glass being the only three building materials used. With an open plan design, guests on the fourth floor will be able to see all the way down to the ground floor. Water will also be in abundance across the spa, with springs throughout the site streaming pure Arosa spring water.

Using natural elements and maximising the stunning mountain setting, the spa will be a true oasis of health, beauty and wellbeing. Facilities will include two swimming pools, an outdoor pool with spectacular views, sun terraces, a hammam, indoor and outdoor sauna, two spa suites, 12 treatment rooms, a meditation room, fitness centre, relaxation area with fireplace, outdoor stretch area, hair salon and a medi spa department offering check-ups, dermatological and nutritional advice.

Of the more unusual offerings, the Arosa Mountain Grotto on the top floor will be made of Arosa mountain stone. Guests will pass through a rain curtain into a small area where they can enjoy a programme of seasons – summer rain, a winter storm, fog, mist or pure sunshine, designed to soothe and invigorate the mind and soul.

Named after the famous German pastor who discovered the properties of water on the human body, particularly the benefits of moving from hot to cold, the Kneipp Path on the fourth floor is a path resembling a natural brook. Guests can walk (‘kneipp’) over natural stones through the knee-deep stream, passing through ice cold and hot spots, stimulating their blood circulation and nervous system.

Light is of the essence. Nine ‘Light Trees’ have been constructed on the roof of the Mountain Spa which reflect natural bright light down onto each of the floors. Light will be controlled internally, and intertwined with colour and contrasts to create different ambiances throughout the day.

With its startling attention to detail and unique use of the elements, the Tschuggen Bergoase promises to open a new world of wellness to guests looking for the ultimate spa experience.

Along with the launch of the Bergoase Spa, the hotel unveils in December the long-awaited Tschuggen Coaster. The first of its kind in the world, this innovative transport system will connect the Tschuggen Grand Hotel to the heart of Arosa’s mountain ski slopes.

The 133 room five-star Tschuggen Grand Hotel is located within the southeastern town of Arosa – hailed as one of Switzerland’s best kept secrets. The resort is a stunning mountain destination, offering an exceptional setting where the mountains enclose an unspoiled natural area at an altitude of 1800-2650m above sea level. With guaranteed snow from December until April, The Tschuggen Grand Hotel, a Swiss Deluxe Hotel and member of the Leading Hotels of the World, offers superb facilities for skiers and non skiers alike. Guestrooms at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel start from 48m2 deluxe rooms to the 148 m2 Tschuggen Suite with its two double guestrooms.

The hotel has four restaurants offering a variety of cuisine and formality. La Vette serves stylish Mediterranean fare in beautiful surroundings, while the Grand Restaurant offers fine dining in a suitably elegant setting. La Provence provides a choice of buffet or a la carte lunchtime dining, and the Bündner Stube offers Swiss specialties, such as raclette and fondue, along with after dinner ten-pin bowling. The Bergoase spa will also have a lively spa lounge serving light snacks and healthy menu options.

The mountain town of Arosa is best reached via Zurich. Trains run frequently from Zurich to Chur, which is a two and a half hour train ride through the Swiss Alps. From Chur there is a mountain train up to Arosa which is a steep and very scenic climb taking 60 minutes.

The Tschuggen Grand Hotel will open for the ski season from 1st December 2006 until the 15th April 2007 with double rooms available from 357 Euros.
