Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age Exhibition at Liberty Science Center Features Real Preserved Baby Mammoth for a Limited Time

The vivid new large-scale exhibition, "Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age," explores the lives of these enormous animals and the environments in which they lived. It also guides guests on an exploration of climate change then and now, helping visitors of all ages understand the evolutionary implications of changing ecosystems.

Starting October 16, Liberty Science Center guests will enjoy a rich collection of 100+ rare fossils, touchable casts, immersive media and -- for a limited time -- the real preserved specimen of Lyuba, the baby mammoth recently discovered in the Siberian tundra (and the most complete mammoth ever found). They will also examine authentic, sharp-tipped spear points and hunting instruments made by Ice Age hunters as well as some of the oldest known art: delicate carvings and Paleolithic jewelry. A host of immersive videos, giant tusks and massive animal models, touchable displays and fun, hands-on experiences make this the area’s most outstanding fall-winter exhibition.

“We tend to think of the Ice Age as a one-time event, but the Earth has experienced many alternating periods of cold and warmth,” says Liberty Science Center president and CEO Emlyn Koster, whose PhD was in Earth Science. “What is different now is that in addition to an overall warming climate since the Ice Age, human and industrial activities that burn fossil fuels amplify warming, changing atmospheric conditions. In 'Mammoths and Mastodons,' visitors will discover the enormous amount of environmental change that has occurred since ice retreated from this region 15,000 years ago; they will also likely develop a heightened sense of urgency about climate change issues, including the pressing need for green energy innovations.”

TICKETS:
Due to the expense of bringing it to Liberty Science Center, this show has an extra fee of $5.25 for adults, $3.50 for children 2-12 and seniors 62+. Children under 2 are free.
