Aurora, IL (PRWEB) October 12, 2006 -- With teams expected from across the Midwest, the Aurora Flyers Indoor Track and Field meet promises lots of excitement. With Elite high school athletes competing along with AAU national champion youth runners, this meet should bring together some of the top competition from around the country. These athletes have been taught by some of the premier coaches from around the nation.
College coaches from around the Midwest have been invited to view the talent at this meet. With dreams of college scholarships floating around, many high school athletes will prepare to put on a show! There will be many athletes vying to display their talent in all aspects of track and field from the short sprints to distance races and field events. This meet will provide a platform where top athletes can test their skills against the best in their field nationally as well as showcase their abilities to college coaches.
The Aurora Flyers track team was started by Tom Boatright in 1986. Coach Boatright was on the Chicago Bears rookie roster alongside NFL great Walter Payton. Having made the decision to coach Track, Boatright has been instrumental in helping young athletes get college scholarships in track and other sports. He has coached many elite athletes and national champion athletes. Recent 2006 National Champions include Erek Drew (triple Jump), Noah Kauppila (800m, 1500m), Shakeia Pinnick (heptathlon, 800m). Coach Boatright’s teams have had at least 4 National Championships in each of the past 5 years. He has also had athletes bring home over 20 national medals in almost all of the past 5 years. That is quite an accomplishment for one team.
To provide the sponsorship for the meet corporations are offered the opportunity to purchase individual events to sponsor. They can select from any of the races or relays to sponsor. They will also receive a link on the Aurora Flyers website and space in the meet program. Hopefully, with the money raised from the meet, the team will be able to offer scholarships to graduation seniors on the Flyers this year.
The meet will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora, Illinois. Additional information can be found on the website www.auroraflyers.com. You can also contact Tom Boatright at 630-669-5737 for more information.
