Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge Closes for Winter

Day use visits permitted for limited time, gateway communities offer lodging near North Rim.

Page, AZ (PRWEB) October 20, 2006 -- Grand Canyon North Rim’s in-park visitor facilities closed for the season on Monday, October 16th. This includes Grand Canyon Lodge and Dining Room, the Deli in the Pines, the Rough Rider Saloon, gift shop, camper store and campground. The North Rim hotel and concessions will remain closed until mid-May of 2007.

Highway 67 from Jacob Lake into Grand Canyon National Park will remain open until the season’s first significant snowfall, which means that travelers still have a short time left in which to visit the North Rim on a day use basis, weather permitting.

Overnight lodging and dining near Grand Canyon North Rim can be found in the following locations:

•Jacob Lake, Arizona, 45 minutes North of the Grand Canyon

•Marble Canyon or Lees Ferry, Arizona, about 90 minutes Northeast of the Grand Canyon

•Kanab, Utah, about 90 minutes Northwest of the Grand Canyon

•Page (Lake Powell), Arizona, 2.5 hours Northeast of the Grand Canyon (North and South Rims)

•St. George, Utah, 3 hours Northwest of the Grand Canyon

Potential Grand Canyon North Rim day visitors are strongly advised to verify the weather and status of Highway 67 to the North Rim before setting out. Those interested in camping overnight at the North Rim during the winter season will require a backcountry permit in order to camp stay anywhere from the park's northern boundary to Bright Angel Point on the canyon rim. Wintertime access is by hiking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing only.
