Panamorph Acquires New High Performance Projector and Display Optics Technology

Panamorph’s new optics technology promises to revolutionize electronic imaging products from digital projectors to super-lightweight wearable PDA and cell phone displays.

Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) October 19, 2006 -- Panamorph, Inc. today announced that it has acquired new high performance display optics (http://www.panamorph.com/) technology for digital projector (http://www.panamorph.com/) systems that extends its leadership in anamorphic imaging lenses, and which further supports other markets from digital telescopes to cell phone displays. The technology is based on electronic and optical aberration reversal techniques to substantially reduce the size, cost and complexity of imaging optics. In electronic display applications each component of a color image is shown in a slightly different way so that color aberrations of simple imaging optics are cancelled.

“This patent has been a long time coming because it encompasses core technologies with extremely broad applications”, said Shawn Kelly, president of Panamorph. The recently allowed patent will actually be a reissuance of an original patent filed in the early 1990s supporting applications from conventional magnifying systems to virtual imaging products based both on flat panel microdisplays as well as scanning beam displays. “The wearable display market could indeed be one of the most exciting applications for this new technology”, said Kelly. “Until now, displays have been not only too expensive but primarily too heavy and bulky. People just don’t want to put things on their heads. This new approach delivers an image larger and with higher resolution than any PDA or cell phone display - all in a device so small and lightweight that it can extend from an ear-mount like today’s latest wearable cell phones.”

Panamorph will be adding the new technology to it’s portfolio of patent claims surrounding high performance anamorphic lens technology for wide screen projection systems. “Our patented lenses already produce the highest image clarity of any anamorphic lens design”, explained Kelly. “But this is just the beginning. By incorporating this new electronic color correction into projectors and external image processors they can deliver even higher wide screen performance. At the same time, this paves the way for significantly reduced cost in the projection lens itself – a major consideration in the manufacturing budget of today’s projection systems.”

While the company will retain rights to the intellectual property relating to its anamorphic lens operations, other aspects of the patent will be licensed or sold once it is issued. For more information contact Shawn Kelly at 248-242-9016 or shawn @ panamorph.com.
