Functional Wire Art at Wildlife Evenement 2006

Proudly South African, wire art is being introduced to the Netherlands on 22 October 2006 at the 'Wildlife Evenement 2006'.

Nieuwegein, Holland (PRWEB) October 21, 2006 -- Marcel and Victoria Koning from Marvic VOF are proud to introduce Wire Art to the Netherlands on Sunday 22 October 2006.

Like Nelson Mandela, Wire Art is uniquely South African. It originated from young goat-herders who were unable to buy 'regular' toys (no money) so they made their own out of discarded wire coat-hangers. Little wire cars were created with great attention to detail, including fully-functioning axles, wheels and steering wheels.

The elders saw potential and started making other art objects, which were then sold to visitors. Each glass bead is placed on a steel thread by hand, to create functional keyrings, t-lights, magnets, etc. as well as little animal sculptures. These extraordinary object 'd art are only made on commission.

Wire Art is becoming a rage around the world and the wire artists enjoy international fame and exposure. Wire Art also helps to combat crime and unemployment in South Africa, as people without a means to support themselves are being trained and guided to become wire artists.
