Bice’s Florist Recognized for Community Service Business owner urges support of urgent needs in North Texas community Hurst, Tex. (PRWEB) October 23, 2006 -- The City of Hurst has recognized Bice’s Florist for the company’s sustained public service and community involvement by presenting Bice’s a commemorative plaque in recognition of its 10 consecutive years of support of Hurst’s Golden Couples banquet.
Each year the city recognizes couples married 50 years or more, and each year Bice’s provides flowers for the more than 100 couples in attendance. Keith Riewe, co-owner of Bice’s, considers it all part of the privilege of running a business in Hurst. “We want to be an active part of the community, not just have a store here,” Riewe said.
Riewe added that the rewards for such service come from lending a hand to others, whatever the event. One he is particularly pleased to support is the just-completed Sky Ball, sponsored annually by the Fort Worth Air Power Foundation to benefit the families of service men and women assigned to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth who are serving in the Middle East.
Reserve and National Guard members called to active duty often earn as much as 50 percent less while on military duty than they earn in their civilian jobs. Sky Ball raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to help make up the pay shortfalls, led by a Who’s Who of corporate sponsors including American Airlines, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and KXAS-NBC-5 TV.
“It’s a pleasure to join such great companies to honor our selfless neighbors in the Guard and Reserve who sacrifice so much to preserve our way of life,” Riewe said. “Whatever we do as businesses is small, compared to the sacrifices these people make for us.”
Riewe urges businesses and individuals to support the on-going and urgent needs in North Texas community. “Each of us has something unique to offer, and we are more connected than we may know,” Riewe said.
A good opportunity, Riewe said, will be the Carter BloodCare blood drive at the Bedford Public Library, 1805 L. Don Dodson Drive, Bedford Texas 76021, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. Carter BlookCare serves a 28-county area in North Texas. Each blood donor will receive a rose, courtesy of Bice’s Florist.
